                 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ROCKVILLE, Maryland. — October 25, 2000 — The 1949 exorcism of a youth — which formed the basis for the novel and film “The Exorcist” — is now revealed as having been unnecessary. The 13-year-old boy was not possessed by the devil or any other demon. A medieval ritual against demons was performed against a child who was disturbed but not devilish, according to in-depth investigative articles released at http://www.strangemag.com.

Noted strange phenomena investigators Mark Opsasnick and Mark Chorvinsky have respectively investigated and analyzed

the case, and found that not only was the boy not inhabited by any demon, his behavior did not meet the minimum criteria that the Catholic Church has established for allowing exorcisms to be performed.

While the novel and film “The Exorcist” are fictional works, the writer of both, William Peter Blatty, has long insisted on the

validity of the 1949 exorcism. The effect of this insistence by Blatty and by later exploiters of the alleged phenomenon has

been to make many people believe in the actuality of events depicted in the book and movie, and even in some cases to believe

in exorcism as a solution to their own problems. This has created a public menace — a menace now amplified by both the

re-release of the original film and a new television movie which purports to, but does not actually, tell the true story of the

events.

The exorcism was long thought by most to have occurred in Mt. Rainier, Maryland, but it actually commenced in the neighboring town of Cottage City, Maryland, and climaxed in St. Louis, Missouri. Its true details were finally released in 1998, in issue number 20 of Strange Magazine, and on the magazine’s website. But myth-mongering did not cease.

Now, Strange Magazine’s first online issue, number 21, brings the story up to date with the latest developments, as well as a

trenchant examination of what can happen when the media does not meet its obligations, and self-interest and profit-seeking are considered more important than the pursuit of truth and the public good. Brill’s Content, which claims to be a media watchdog, comes under criticism for its recent article on this case which ignored the Strange Magazine revelations, despite the fact that the author had read the Strange exposé and was aware of the truth.

Also included in the new issue are accounts of some of the more dangerous and often deadly amateur exorcisms which may have been the result of this case where the preservation of myth has trumped all other concerns. For these and further details, obtain Strange Magazine number 21. Instant access to the issue, which is only available online, can be purchased over the internet at http://www.strangemag.com. Strange has, since 1987, been devoted to the investigation of strange phenomena. The publication takes an open-minded yet level-headed approach to many types of anomalies and inexplicables. Strange is available twice-yearly by online purchase, and also maintains a free access site with numerous articles.

Mark Opsasnick’s 24-page investigative report may be accessed at no charge at the strangemag website at http://www.strangemag.com. The Chorvinsky article criticizing the press and the 1949 exorcism attempts may be accessed from the website through the Strange Magazine™ 21 portal on that page. Strange Magazine 21 has a $ 5.00 unlimited access fee.

Members of the press can e-mail Strange at strange1@strangemag.com to receive a free password to get access to Strange 21, including the pull-no-punches Chorvinsky article.

Partners in Preservation Names the Museum of the City of New York as Finalist

New York, NY (PRWEB) April 27, 2012

Today the Museum of the City of New York announced its selection as a finalist in Partners in Preservation’s New York City 2012 program. The partnership between American Express and the National Trust for Historic Preservation, http://www.partnersinpreservation.com, provides preservation grants for local historic places. New York City has been named as this year’s location and the seventh city to participate. The Museum would use the award to restore the façade of its landmark Georgian Revival building, which features an elegant wrought-iron entrance gate and two life-size bronze sculptures of Alexander Hamilton and DeWitt Clinton. These features have remained entirely untouched since they were first installed in 1932.

The Museum is one of 40 finalists competing for a $ 250,000 grant. The finalist will be chosen by popular vote. Individuals can vote for the Museum of the City of New York once a day by logging on to http://www.helpmcny.com/. Voting will be open from April 26 to May 21.

The Museum was chosen because of the distinct historic details of its landmark Fifth Avenue building, which stands at the top of Museum Mile. The restoration would further the preservation of one of the premier examples of the Colonial Revival style in New York City.

The two impressive bronze statues adorning the façade were commissioned and designed specifically for the Museum. The now-weathered masterpieces were created by sculptor Adolph A. Weinman (1870-1952), who was also responsible for the “Mercury” dime and “Walking Liberty” half dollar for the U. S. Mint, and friezes for the U. S. Supreme Court building. The life-size statues boast their subjects in carefully selected poses. Hamilton appears as he does in a statuette owned by direct descendant Mr. Pierpont M. Hamilton, and Clinton’s stately stance was designed by Weinman, who requested a live model dressed in period costume to pose while he sculpted. It is believed Weinman used this technique before when he employed silent movie actress and popular live model Audrey Munson as inspiration for the “Walking Liberty” half dollar in the early 1900s.

The Museum’s 19-foot painted, wrought iron gate, installed in 1932, is accented by hand-shaped decorative elements and supported by marble piers. Restoration of the gate requires cleaning, stripping of decades of coatings, and stabilization to ensure that it will endure for many more years. The gate is attributed to the renowned designer and manufacturer, E.F. Caldwell and Co., who also produced lighting and metal features for Radio City Music Hall, Penn Station, the Waldorf-Astoria, and Grand Central Terminal. In the company of these other great New York treasures, the Museum’s Caldwell gate is an impressive architectural element worthy of careful restoration.

“Commissioned specifically for the Museum by influential designers of the time, both the iron gate and bronze statues are important to our history, as well as New York City’s architectural landscape. These distinct features complement the building’s character, and Partners in Preservation offers the public a wonderful opportunity to support their restoration and longevity,” said Susan Henshaw Jones, Ronay Menschel Director of the Museum of the City of New York.

The Museum has welcomed visitors from the city, the region, and the world to its landmark building for over 80 years. In 2006, the Museum initiated a capital campaign for a Modernization and Expansion Project that centers on the renovation and expansion of its historic building, the construction of new climate-controlled collections storage, and the creation of new state-of-the-art exhibition space. The Museum engaged the award-winning firm of Ennead Architects to undertake this three-phase project. The $ 92 million project, of which more than $ 89 million has been raised, will enhance every aspect of the institution’s operations and help the Museum to achieve its goal of being a world-class museum for and about New York. Completion is anticipated in 2014. Restoration of the distinguished façade is part of this project.

Some of the accomplishments of the project to date are: the completion of a three-level addition to the rear of the 1932 building that houses a two-story climate-controlled, state-of-the-art curatorial center for Museum collections, topped by a soaring 3,000-square foot space for exhibitions now named the James G. Dinan and Elizabeth R. Miller Gallery; the restoration of historic elements in the landmark building; and the installation of sophisticated mechanical and electrical systems.

ABOUT OPEN HOUSE WEEKEND

In honor of Partners in Preservation and in appreciation of public support, the Museum will host an Open House Weekend on Saturday, May 5 and Sunday, May 6 with exhibition tours, family programs, and free ice cream. On Saturday at 10am “Planning Urban Places and Spaces,” a family workshop, takes participants on an exploration of urban transportation. On Sunday at 10am and noon, participants may tour the blockbuster exhibition The Greatest Grid: The Master Plan of Manhattan, 1811-2011 and learn how the city’s street grid has evolved over the past 200 years.

ABOUT PARTNERS IN PRESERVATION

Each year, American Express and the National Trust for Historic Preservation review hundreds of project proposals before selecting the participating Partners in Preservation projects. New York City is the seventh metropolitan area to be selected to participate, which in the past has made grants for preservation projects in San Francisco, Chicago, New Orleans, Greater Boston, Seattle-Puget Sound, and Saint Paul/Minneapolis. The prospective grantees, each of which is a nonprofit organization or a government agency, complete formal grant applications, and are then reviewed towards specific criteria that includes their historic significance and accessibility to the public, demonstration of community support and organizational excellence, and evidence of a coherent and sustainable preservation plan. Voters are allotted one vote per day, from April 26 through May 21, 2012, to help give away $ 3 million to preserve historic places in New York City.

ABOUT THE MUSEUM OF THE CITY OF NEW YORK

Founded in 1923 as a private, nonprofit corporation, the Museum of the City of New York celebrates and interprets the city, educating the public about its distinctive character, especially its heritage of diversity, opportunity, and perpetual transformation. The Museum connects the past, present, and future of New York City, and serves the people of the city as well as visitors from around the world through exhibitions, school and public programs, publications, and collections.

Redrock Micro Launches New ultraCage and ultraBase for Video-Capable DSLR Cameras

Hollywood, CA and Dallas, TX (PRWEB) May 03, 2012

Redrock Micro, the recognized leader in affordable professional-level cinema accessories, today launched the new ultraCage DSLR and ultraBase support for video-enabled DSLR cameras. The ultraCage DSLR has been called an essential accessory for converting the DSLR camera body into a movie-making production powerhouse.

NEXT GENERATION SUPPORT FOR THE NEW GENERATION OF VIDEO DSLRS

Video DSLRs have arrived as legitimate filmmaking tools. Groundbreaking cameras like the Canon 5D MKIII and the new Nikon D800 deliver advanced movie features and outstanding results. However, the form factor of DSLRs severely limits the stability of shots and the ability to adapt accessories that are commonplace for high-quality filmmaking. Redrock products have evolved along with DSLRs and now offer the best solutions for shooting high quality movies with DSLR rigs.

PROFESSIONAL-LEVEL SUPPORT AND STABILITY

The ultraCage DSLR delivers rock-solid support and stability for DSLR cameras. The ultraCage secures the camera body at three points: screws into the camera base, fastens to the top hot shoe and locks the camera in place with the anti-rotation pin. The ultraCage supports a wide variety of DSLR bodies and has been tested with the Canon 60D, 7D, 5D MKII, 5D MKIII, and Nikon D800/ D800e camera bodies. You will not find a support cage anywhere that is more stable, functional or reliable.

The ultraCage DSLR adds industry-standard 15mm bottom rails for accessories such as a mattebox, follow focus or lens support. The built-in 15mm top rail support is great for adding accessories you want to keep with your camera on every setup, such as camera-top monitors or remote focus motors.

The cage surrounds the camera with 22 mounting holes (standard 1/4” and 3/8”) that are perfect for attaching and positioning virtually any other accessory available. The ultra Series of accessories from Redrock can extend the ultraCage with extended top and bottom rails, triple the mounting points and additional mounting plates for advanced accessories such as external batteries, external recorders, audio units, and remote focusing.

In addition, the powerPack Universal accessory delivers a powered cage option so all camera-top accessories and the camera itself can be powered from a single, long-lasting source using an external battery.

The ultraCage DSLR and ultraBase are ideal for the following types of users:

    Professionals using DSLRs for filmmaking
Enthusiasts looking to get better results from video DSLRs
Amateurs who want something they can start simple with and grow
Steadicam, riggers, camera/jib operators needing rock-solid support and stability
Anyone looking for better support for their video DSLR

SLIM, CONTOURED DESIGN MOLDS TO DSLR BODY, ADDS FEATURES WITHOUT BULKING UP

Unlike other offerings, the ultraCage curves with the camera’s contours and doesn’t make it any larger than absolutely necessary. All doors and features are completely accessible, and the cage is unobtrusive enough to stay on the camera even when shooting stills. The precision-machined aluminum housing and available carbon fiber rods keep things light without sacrificing strength.

THE FOUNDATION FOR ANY SHOOTING STYLE, FROM HANDHELD TO STUDIO

The ultraCage DSLR can be used to create any type of rig, from handheld to full studio. Redrock offers pre-built bundles for handheld, shouldermount, and studio setups based on the ultraCage.

Using Redrock’s family of 400+ cinema accessories and building blocks, virtually any rig can be created to fit your shooting style and budget. With the ultraCage DSLR, your camera can now take advantage of Redrock’s ultra Series of advanced support accessories for sleek, sophisticated camera setups.

THE ULTRACAGE DSLR ADVANTAGE

The Redrock ultraCage DSLR and ultraBase are the only professional-level camera support to deliver all these key advantages:

Superior support and stability for DSLR cameras
Form-fitting and lightweight contoured design promotes small, fast shooting style
Top & bottom 15mm rails and 22 mounting points for accessories
Retains access to all DSLR buttons and doors
wireLock protects and converts HDMI output to full size HDMI supported connector
Cage provides 360 degrees of protection for your DSLR
Build any rig you want with Redrock’s family of ultra Series and cinema accessories
Can be used for handheld, studio or rigging, and can fast-change between setups.
Confidence in gear that comes with lifetime warranty and is made in the USA.
    Incredibly affordable professional-level gear – starting at $ 595.

Author Plugs Women in Combat, A U.S. Reality

(PRWEB) November 12, 2000

For Release November 9, 2000 – #00-001

AUTHOR PLUGS WOMEN IN COMBAT, A U.S. REALITY

Lindsay McKenna releases new e-book, Valkyrie; Sets stage for

public debate of women in military

PHOENIX, AZ – November 9, 2000 – If the U.S. Military needs a reason to allow women in ground combat, the highly anticipated book Valkyrie, due December 1, will kick this issue into high gear.

Jumping ship, best-selling author Lindsay McKenna is taking her military mainstream books along the path of such celebrity writers as Stephen King: e-book territory.

”Lindsay is an author that believes in taking charge of her career,” says Mary Wolf, owner of Hard Shell Word Factory, the award-winning e-publisher for Valkyrie at http://www.hardshell.com. “This format allows her to push the boundaries beyond the print venues she’s had.”

    And pushing is an understatement.

Facing head on a controversial military subject, McKenna’s pro-woman in combat stance brings her own military experience and exhaustive research into Valkyrie’s fictional adventure that’s so real it begs the question.

WHEN will U.S. women be allowed in ground combat?

”I’m pro-women in all job slots in the U.S. Military,” says McKenna of the the pro-women-in-the-military global trend. “None should be closed to them – patriotism should be gender free.”

Having served herself in the U.S. Navy and during the Vietnam War, McKenna saw that there were certain types of women prepared mentally, emotionally, and physically for ground combat.

”It’s a time that’s come, ” states Richard Lee, an Apache helicopter chief pilot and Vietnam veteran.

When it comes to conflict, he mentions, not all men can wage a war. Not all men can fight – and the same is true of women says Lee.

”Given the right training and attitude, there is no reason why women can’t be all but equal,” emphasizes Lee.

In fact, women-in-the-military advocate Captain Barbara Wilson, retired, states that many of the reasons given to exclude women in the combat roles are due to myths and legends.

”I don’t think the issue is women in combat but is, rather, equal opportunity,” says Wilson.

Currently, about 15 percent of military jobs are off limits to women: ground combat and submarine duty.

Reviewers for the book call Valkyrie an “edge-of-the-seat” suspense, “richly drawn characters,” and “absolutely fantastic.”

”She really took out all the stops,” says Harriett Klausner, number one reviewer for Amazon.com and several other top-notch publications. “She’s really one of the best writers I’ve seen.”

The military suspense, Valkyrie, – already movie optioned – sets up a ground combat trial for women, along with other U.S. Forces, into an erupting Southeast Asia hot-spot crisis. The all-woman task force tests political odds and physical danger in all-out ground combat.

All to please a mainstream audience, the adventure offers intrigue, strategy, violence, and a love story. The book is available through Hard Shell Word Factory, http://www.hardshell,com, in two formats: electronic or paperback version. Local bookstores can also make special paperback orders for customers that do not have computers or Internet access.

Lindsay McKenna (aka Eileen Nauman) is the best-selling author of Valkyrie and 50 fiction books in the last 20 years. Known as the “Top Gun of Women’s Military Fiction,” she created the sub-genre of military adventure/romance and covers a mainstream women’s market having sold over 10 million books worldwide.

More about McKenna, Valkyrie, and electronic publishing can be found on her website at http://www.lindsaymckenna.com.

Editor’s Note: Additional interviews, quotes, information, and images are available through Therese Flores at 480-682-9030, by e-mail at gtflores@concentric.net, or

EarthCam Releases New Time-Lapse Video of One World Trade Center

New York (PRWEB) April 30, 2012

The construction and rebuilding efforts at the World Trade Center in New York City have captivated the attention of people throughout the country and around the world. Within days of September 11th, 2001, EarthCam installed a professional webcam to share live images with the public and carefully capture all the recovery efforts. Over the years, EarthCam has consistently maintained their services, successfully documenting construction of the new structures, which are seen as a symbol of strength, unity and hope for America.

At 5 p.m. ET today, EarthCam will release a new HD time-lapse video showcasing the most up-to-date construction progress for the recently crowned tallest building in New York, One World Trade Center. Also known popularly as The Freedom Tower, it will eventually soar to 1,776 feet above the city, becoming the tallest building in the United States, overtaking The Willis Tower in Chicago. Every day for the past seven and a half years, several high quality robotic megapixel camera systems have been carefully documenting the vertical rise. The time-lapse video begins during preconstruction on October 18th, 2004 and ends with a multi-image panorama of today’s significant milestone, from EarthCam’s newest 700 MegapixelCam Robotic.

“Uniquely important, the construction of the World Trade Center is a tremendous effort by many, which deserves innovative technology and a passionate team to monitor and document its rebirth. What we set out to accomplish 10 years ago was to create something special and I believe we delivered”, said Brian Cury, CEO and Founder of EarthCam. “We remain dedicated to this historic archive and will continue to share our creative achievements with the public through completion.”

To date, over 1,000,000 high definition photographs were captured of Ground Zero and the World Trade Center site by EarthCam’s cameras and editing the huge database of imagery was no easy task. Using special techniques developed over the years by EarthCam’s time-lapse production staff, the current 90 month library was edited into a theatrical-quality two minute time-lapse movie. The time-lapse gives viewers a truly dynamic way to watch this extraordinary project in motion.

ERASE Racism Hosts Special Celebration to Launch its Second Decade

Dr. Roscoe Brown, former Tuskegee Airman, with ERASE Racism President Elaine Gross

(PRWEB) April 24, 2012

“This year’s Abraham Krasnoff Courage and Commitment Award honorees exemplify the lasting impact of extraordinary individuals who have devoted their lives to promoting racial equity by addressing institutional and structural racism,” says Elaine Gross, President of ERASE Racism, adding, “Our Corporate Leadership Award honoree proves that corporations can play a critical role in increasing racial equity. I couldn’t think of three honorees more worthy of launching ERASE Racism’s second decade of eliminating racial disparities on Long Island.”

Among its many achievements over the past 10 years, ERASE Racism’s most recent accomplishments include the release of its documentary A TALE OF TWO SCHOOLS: Race and Education on Long Island and a new housing survey report that dispels myths about the causes of segregation, Housing and Neighborhood Preferences of African Americans on Long Island.

ERASE Racism’s 2012 Benefit Celebration will take place Tuesday, June 12th at the Garden City Hotel, where more than 300 supporters will gather to celebrate the past and build for the future. The Abraham Krasnoff Courage and Commitment Award will be presented to Dr. Roscoe C. Brown, pioneer for racial equity as a Tuskegee Airman and as a renowned educator, and to Ms. Joan R. Saltzman, inspiring leader and community activist for equal access and expanded services. ERASE Racism will also present its Corporate Leadership Award to North Shore-LIJ Health System, a visionary leader for equity and excellence in healthcare. The award will be accepted by Jennifer Mieres, M.D., Senior Vice President, Office of Community and Public Health.

The Tuskegee Airmen are often credited with being pioneers of the civil rights movement. Their heroism led to the integration of the armed forces and opened many doors to black Americans. Dr. Roscoe Brown joined the elite African-American pilots, often referred to as the “Red Tail Angels”, in 1943. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross with eight Oak Clusters and, more recently, the Congressional Gold Medal. Four Seasons Resort Maui’s Ashtanga Yoga Retreat Set for June 13-18 to Coincide with Maui Film Festival

Actress Vanessa Hudgens attends Ashtanga Yoga Retreat at Four Seasons Resort Maui

Maui, Hawaii (PRWEB) April 30, 2012

When students spend time with renowned Ashtanga Yoga master David Swenson they come away awe-inspired and not just because he’s teaching them one of the more authentic forms of yoga.

For Swenson, who began his practice with the great Ashtanga master K. Pattabhi Jois in 1973, what excites him most—and what he loves to impart to his students–is the fluid, dynamic nature of the practice.

“The flowing rhythm linked to the breath, it just bit me. It was like coming home,” says Swenson about discovering this form of yoga. “It gave me the energy and strength I hadn’t felt from other forms of yoga. It’s not just about how we put our bodies into shape, it’s how we interact with each other as human beings and how we interact with the environment around us.”

Swenson and his wife, Shelly Washington, who also studied with K. Pattabhi Jois in Mysore, India, return to Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea June 13-18 to teach their second retreat. This event is part of the resort’s one-of-a-kind “Unforgettable Event series which gives guests the opportunity to participate in such diverse programs as viticulture and culinary events, film festival screenings and fantasy tennis and cycling camps. Learn more at: http://maui.enewsletters.fourseasons.com/unforgettableevents/

The Ashtanga Yoga Retreat is open to beginners and yoga enthusiasts alike (http://www.ashtanga.net.)

For “Entourage” actress Perrey Reeves, who attended last year’s program, the impact of the retreat was in how all the elements came together. “The beautiful space, the location, Maui, Four Seasons, David Swenson…. this was one of the most unforgettable yoga experiences I have ever had.”

The package includes: five nights in luxury resort accommodations; four morning yoga classes and three afternoon classes as well as tickets to the Maui Film Festival’s Celestial Cinema screenings and the festival’s “Taste of Chocolate” event. Maui Film Festival is a renowned destination for independent film screening movies outdoors under the stars while featuring special tasting events and galas. More information and film schedules can be found at http://www.mauifilmfestival.com.

Also in June is the inaugural Four Pinots at Four Seasons which pairs four boutique Pinot Noir vintners with the unparalleled cuisine of the Four Seasons Resort Maui restaurants. With an emphasis on local produce, seafood, cheeses and meats, Four Pinots culminates in a gala on the Ocean Front Lawn where these local purveyors mingle with guests and enjoy more than forty wines paired with the true cuisine of Maui.

And, in December, the wines continue to flow at Four Seasons Resort Maui with the newly reconceived Maui Wine and Food Festival. The multi-day festival (December 6-9) will feature Maui’s rich bounty of ranch, ocean and farm fresh products, along with exceptional wines, and educational culinary and wine encounters led by world renowned Master Sommeliers. Detailed information on exact events, locations and ticketing will be available online at http://www.waileawineandfoodfestival.com starting June 1, 2012.

Maui’s first and only Forbes Five-Star resort is nestled on 15 acres of the breathtaking Wailea Coast. The 380-room oceanfront property is world-renowned for its comfortable opulence, impeccable service, luxurious amenities, and for living in harmony with its environment and community.
